Featured Work: Nu Skin SEA L!ve Event
Virtual and hybrid events have been the go-to for many major companies as they adapt to tough safety restrictions caused by the pandemic. For more than a year, we have seen keynotes, exhibitions, and live entertainment shows taking the digital route to keep engagement alive and stabilize businesses.
While we have previously covered the perks and facets of livestream event productions, there is still so much more to this sensational medium. In this article, we’re revisiting a virtual event project that we have produced recently— by breaking down the process, challenges, and creative output to bring a project of this nature to fruition.
What Is This Event About?
Nu Skin is a global multi-level marketing enterprise that develops an extensive range of skincare products and nutrition supplements.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Nu Skin SEA L!ve— an annual event that celebrates the company’s achievements worldwide— goes digital for the very first time as SEA L!Ve Digital. The event also recognizes its best-performing business builders in the Southeast Asia region, serving as a platform to appreciate and share their success stories.
And we had been given the opportunity to turn this reputable event, known for its massive turnouts and lavish venues, into a digital experience that retains the heart of this annual jamboree.
The Game Plan
The event is a collaborative effort that is organized and conducted across borders; where certain segments that are screened at the event would be filmed by external production houses or self-recorded via Zoom. As the chief production team behind this project, a lot of coordination is required on our end to make sure all the content are weaved together seamlessly, with minimal to no technical errors and inconsistencies.
We employed a multi-camera set-up (typical in live television broadcasts) to give a more dynamic experience that matches the scale of the event. Furthermore, a good amount of blocking was involved to ensure the presenter’s movements throughout the event is smooth and well-coordinated.
We also put up our in-house teleprompter to cut down on errors during speech deliveries, which proved to be an effective decision.
As mentioned earlier, the event consists of many components; from live recordings to pre-recorded segments provided by overseas vendors (some are professionally shot, while others are self-recorded). So, to keep these smaller productions in check, we developed a production guide for these external videos to follow— to make sure the final video flows consistently.
But of course, with so many hands working on different segments, irregularities are bound to surface, even with an elaborate guide. However, like the saying goes, there’s nothing we can’t fix in post (for the right price).
Building an Experience
Apart from the meticulous technicalities that goes behind the event’s production, we were also involved in planning and directing the event experience— to provide a memorable viewing experience for the online attendees. After all, running at close to 2 hours, a little creativity could elevate the presentations and keep the content fresh and moving.
To do that, we experimented with projection mapping for the event’s opening sequence.
A technology that is not new in recent years, projection mapping turns physical objects and structures into interactive displays that deliver an immersive experience. We utilized the technology in hopes of breaking away from what audiences would expect from a typical live show.
At TSB, we are big on team play to produce the best outcomes and solutions for our clients. A virtual event, to us, is more than a stage and a steady internet connection, it is an interactive platform to push your brand story on the digital stage... with endless possibilities.
